Airport Operating Guidelines

  • Daytime use only
  • VFR (Visual Flight Rules) only
  • No commercial operations
  • No jet aircraft
  • No touch-and-go operations

Runway Lot Owners (Proprietary Members)

Owners of runway lots automatically have airport use privileges. Their invited guests may also use the airport when visiting them.

Other Buckhorn Ranch Property Owners (Non-Proprietary Members)

Owners whose properties do not front the runway do not automatically have airport privileges. However, they may apply to join the Airport Association by paying an initiation fee and ongoing dues.

Airport use rights are not transferable and apply only to approved members.

Aircraft Parking

  • Owners should park aircraft on their own property whenever possible.
  • If guests cannot park on the owner’s property, the owner must be present to meet them upon arrival.
  • Limited parking is available on Lot C-1, but reservations are required.

Unauthorized Use

Use of the airport by individuals who are not authorized (including visitors to the Crested Butte area who are not guests of runway lot owners) is not permitted. Unauthorized use may result in fines, immobilization of the aircraft, and notification to the FAA.

Entryway

As you enter Buckhorn Ranch, you'll pass beneath one of the community's most recognizable landmarks — the Buckhorn Ranch entryway. This iconic wooden gateway has long served as the first greeting to residents and visitors alike, reflecting the rustic character and natural beauty of the Crested Butte area.

Seasonally decorated and carefully maintained over the years, the entryway has become a symbol of Buckhorn Ranch and the pride residents take in their mountain community.

Entryway Replacement Project

The original Buckhorn Ranch entry sign was recently damaged beyond repair. The Board has been working to design and coordinate a replacement that reflects the character of the community while improving durability for years to come.

Installation of the new Buckhorn Ranch entry sign is planned for early summer 2026.

We appreciate everyone's patience while this important community landmark is restored.
